Boot camps are part of the U.S. penal system. The basic philosophy is shock incarceration.<br> <br> "The program emphasizes the development of personal responsibility, work ethic, self-esteem and self-discipline."<br> <br> Some first time offenders are offered a choice between 90-day boot camp and regular prison.<br> <br> "The inmates participate in counseling and skills training for more than 2 hours each evening."<br> <br> "Training programs include life skills & stress management."<br> New inmates are dressed in white and referred to as 'ghosts.'<br> <br> "Probationers are eligible if physically and mentally able to participate."<br> <br> Prisoners can choose to leave boot camp and serve their sentence in prison.<br> <br> <br>
